Since 2011 Kevin Keatts has done a fantastic job as an assistant coach, so much so Rick Pitino upgraded him to associate head coach. It was only a matter of time he would move on to be a head coach. Thursday morning it was released by several news outlets that Keatts will be the new head coach at UNC-Wilmington.
Keatts was the head coach at Hargrave Military Academy where he had a lot of success before coming to Louisville.
“Kevin is one of the best assistants I have had in a long career,” Pitino said after Keatts was named associate head coach. “That’s saying something with the great assistants I’ve had the extreme pleasure to work alongside. He has done an incredible job with all of our current players and recruits.”
Pitino has said often how great he is to work with. Keatts has done a lot of great recruiting and game planning for the Cardinals which has led to two Final Fours, a National Championship and a three conference championships.
I have a feeling Keatts will do a fantastic job, although he has his work cutout for him. UNC-Wilmington is 42-82 in the past four seasons.
