Louisville played smart and hard against UConn Saturday night. Montrezl Harrell was a beast underneath, helping Louisville out rebound UConn’s much taller lineup. He had 13 rebounds and three blocks to go with his 18 points in the 76-64 win.
We must remember, as if Dick Vitale would let us forget, the Cards are without Chane Behanan, who was kicked off the team for violating rules. They were also without starting point guard Chris Jones. So a conference win on the road over a very good opponent in a hostile environment is something that can only help come March.
The moment of the game that everyone will be talking about in the morning is UConn’s coach Kevin Ollie freaking out and getting a double-technical after a no call. A Husky went up for a three and Wayne Blackshear bumped into him. Ollie then runs towards the ref in a fit of rage. He continued to voice his frustration even with a police escort taking him to the locker room. It is something to watch.
Russ Smith led all Cards with 23 points, most because of his free throws going 12-15 from the stripe. Terry Rozier had seven rebounds, which is impressive for a 6’2″ guard verse very good rebounders.
A scary moment for Louisville fans was when Blackshear fell going after a rebound. He seemed to have hurt his hip. The Cards cannot afford anymore injuries. He was able to come back in, it will be interesting to see how he is tomorrow after he rests.
Louisville will play South Florida on the road Wednesday and then will have a week off.
