The Louisville Cardinals will play the Memphis Tigers Thursday night in the KFC Yum! Center. This will be the 88th meeting between the two schools, Louisville leads the series 53-34. Louisville comes into the game ranked 12th in the AP, Memphis 24th.
The Cardinals have lost both of their games against top 25 opponents; Kentucky and UNC. Memphis beat No.11 Oklahoma State after losing to them earlier in the season. They are also coming off a 69-53 loss on the road to Cincinnati.
Both teams are pretty even, scoring just above 80 points, 39 rebounds and 10 steals per game. Louisville is shooting the ball a lot better than Memphis behind the arc.
Memphis has just as much experience as Louisville playing in big games. The Yum! Center will be rocking for the “White Out” that is planned. This is a game that Louisville needs. With losing Chane Behanan, this team needs to show they can compete in a big atmosphere against a ranked opponent.
I would expect a big game from Louisville PG Chris Jones who is from Memphis, TN. and grew up a fan. Every player wants to play big against their hometown school. He will have 21 points, 5 assists and 2 steals.
Shaq Goodwin will be one to watch for Memphis, very athletic. I expect him to be the one Pitino keys in on. Blackshear and Harrell will take turns guarding him.
Mangok Mathiang, aka Dieng Jr., will lead the Cards in rebounds with 8. He will also have a couple blocks.
