Kentucky Wildcats assistant Orlando Antigua has taken the South Florida head coaching job Monday. Antigua will stay with the Wildcats as they get ready to play Wisconsin in the Final Four. He will be introduced as the new coach Tuesday in the Sun Dome Arena in Tampa.

He is taking the position after Stan Heath was let go. Heath was at USF for seven season with a record of 97-130.

USF athletic director Mark Harlan said in a statement Monday;

“I said from the beginning of this search, we were looking for a great leader, a great communicator, a proven record of being able to recruit and develop players, and someone who will represent USF with exceptional energy and integrity.”

“We have found all of that and more in Orlando Antigua.”

Antigua is known by most around the Kentucky program as a very good recruiter. He started stepping in for Calipari in a couple of the press conferences this past season. He also was the head coach of the Dominican Republic national team last summer.

Former Pitino assistant Steve Masiello was given the job at USF last week, but after the committee found out that he didn’t complete his degree at Kentucky it was back open.
