The Louisville Cardinals were without starting point guard Chris Jones, who has a sprained wrist, against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Saturday afternoon. There were some questions how the Terry Rozier would do starting at PG and if Russ Smith could continue to pass the ball well.

In Smith’s career he has never really been known as a passer, in fact some would say the opposite. He is a shoot first type of guard, at least I should say he was a shoot first guard. This season he has become a pass first guard, growing leaps and bounds compared to last year. That is probably why NBA scouts were not too excited about the 6’0″ senior. Of course he can score, but he needed one more year to develop an all-around game.

Against WKU Smith had 14 points and dished out 10 assists. He also had four rebounds and gave up two turnovers.

Terry Rozier had only four points, but man did he step up in replace of Jones. Especially on the boards, grabbing a team high 10, he also had one steal. Rozier has some work to do before he is the player Pitino wants, but 10 boards from the PG position is exactly what the Hall of Fame coach wants.

It was also great seeing Behanan and Mathiang doing well on the offensive glass.

Louisville will play Missouri State Tuesday night in the Yum! Center.
