Trent Gilbert was offered a preferred walk-on spot on the Louisville Cardinals last week and Thursday he went to Louisville for a visit. Gilbert announced Friday night that he will be a Cardinal.

“I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level, and that’s what this is, and it would be a chance to play for a legendary coach (in Rick Pitino),” Gilbert told the Courier-Journal’s Steve Jones last week when got the offer from Louisville.

The 6-foot 2014 prospect has had interest from Oklahoma State, WKU, EKU and a few others. He does have scholarship offers from Marshall and Winthrop.

Gilbert averaged 26.1 points last season for Scott Co. and became his schools all-time leading scorer. He was also 91 percent from the free throw line.

Louisville now has seven freshman coming in for 2014. With a lot of size and length Gilbert will be a nice addition to the Cardinals with his ability to hit from outside. Pitino is known for making much out of his walk-ons, who knows Gilbert could be the next Tim Henderson.
