Brett Michaels and his band Poison may have made the song, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” popular in the 80′s but former Louisville Cardinal and future NFL draftee, Teddy Bridgewater, is far from being a thorn to his mother, Rose.
Bridgewater is in New York City calmly waiting for Thursday’s NFL draft and hanging with NYC icons like Spike Lee and Robin Roberts. He and his mother, Rose Murphy also made an appearance on Good Morning America this morning and spoke briefly about the birthday surprise.
Teddy made a promise to his mother when he was nine years old that when he made it to the NFL, he would buy her a pink Cadillac Escalade after seeing one drving down the road. At the time, h ethought pink would be the color any woman would want but after seeing his mom go through and defeat breast cancer, pink is only fitting.
As someone lucky enough to get to not only meet Teddy and Rose but to also get to know them personally over a few years, I have to say that they will both forever be two of my all-time favorite people. They are genuine and extremely nice to everybody they meet no matter the situation and no matter if cameras are on them or not.
Teddy’s draft stock has been bounced around more than a pinball in an 80′s arcade and he’s currently projected as a second round pick by several gurus and mock drafts. Others, like Bleacher Report’s NFL Draft Scout, Matt Miller, have him going number one overall. I’m no expert but the latter is closer to where Teddy should be drafted.
With so many teams in the NFL struggling with quarterback play it would be foolish for any team to take a pass on such an awesome young man who excels on and off the field. The youngest of Rose Murphy’s children, Teddy is someone who NFL GM’s could and should make the face of their franchise. You can see the remarkable piece Spike Lee did on Teddy and Rose here.
Maybe now there will be a hit song called, “Every Rose Needs A Teddy”?
