Thon Maker, a 7-foot big man from the Carlisle School in Martinsville, VA., received an offer from the Louisville Cardinals Thursday. Rick Pitino called the Sudanese 2016 prospect personally after watching him over the weekend. Maker has offers from all over the country including Duke, Ohio State, Memphis and Arizona. Kentucky coach John Calipari has also shown a lot of interest lately.
Maker is considered the No.1 player in the 2016 class by ESPN. Scout.com and Rivals.com has him as their third-best player in the class.
ESPN says of him:
Maker is an extra long post that is very athletic, mobile and skilled for his size and age. He runs the floor with long strides and catches and finishes on the move extremely well. Maker hunts block shots and what he doesn’t block he changes.
Scout.com says of him:
Maker is very quick both off the floor and laterally. Down the road he could prove highly effective defending against the pervasive screen and roll offenses of college and the NBA, and his explosive leap enables him to swat shots at a prolific rate. He also retrieves offensive rebounds before opponents are able to jump into the play, and his rapid dunking style catches many observers off-guard. He does need to gain lower body strength.
